Die Avocado im handlichen Format kennen wir alle. Ein Farmer aus Australien bringt die Frucht jetzt aufs nächste Level: Er verkauft Avozillas, die bis zu 1,8 Kilo schwer sind.
Avocados sind wohl der Food-Trend der vergangenen Jahre. Die kleinen grünen Früchte dürfen in keiner Küche mehr fehlen. Für ihre Liebhaber gibt es jetzt spektakuläre Nachrichten: Avocados sind nicht mehr nur im handlichen Format erhältlich. Jetzt ist es Zeit für Avozilla!
Hinter dem Namen verbirgt sich die XXL-Variante der Avocado – und die sorgt gerade in Australien für Furore. Die Avozilla ist etwa fünfmal so groß wie die herkömmliche Avocado, wiegt bis zu 1,8 Kilogramm und wird ursprünglich in Südafrika angebaut.
Wer eine Avozilla haben will, muss vorbestellen
Mittlerweile gibt es auch in Australien eine Avozilla-Farm, die von David Groves und seiner Familie betrieben wird. "Jeder ist begeistert von diesen riesigen Avocados. Wenn man eine sieht, ist das unvergesslich", schwärmt Groves im Interview mit dem australischen Fernsehsender ABC News .

Die Farmer bringen den Avocado-Trend auf die nächste Stufe: Ihre Früchte sind bei Supermärkten und Kunden heiß begehrt. Die ersten 400 Exemplare waren in Windeseile ausverkauft, wer weitere bekommen will, muss vorbestellen. Das neue Kult-Food hat natürlich auch seinen Preis: 12 Dollar kostet jedes Stück.
Stolzer Preis, voller Geschmack
Dafür gibt es natürlich auch vollen Geschmack, verspricht David Groves: "Oft schmecken große Früchte nicht so gut wie die kleinen, aber in diesem Fall ist es anders. Es ist eine sehr leckere Frucht." Der Farmer legt Wert darauf, dass seine Früchte nicht genetisch verändert sind: "Sie sind wie jede andere Frucht herangezogen worden."
Da kann es eigentlich nicht mehr lange dauern, bis die Mega-Avocado auch Deutschland erreicht. Dann müssen Avocado-Fans auch nicht mehr ständig nachkaufen: Eine Avozilla soll für neun Toastscheiben reichen. "Statt zwei oder drei in der Woche müsste man dann nur noch eine kaufen", zitiert ABC News einen Supermarkt-Manager. Die Früchte sollen eine Woche lang haltbar sein.
