Daniel Arnold war chronisch pleite. Dann beschloss der Fotograf aus New York, Drucke seiner Bilder auf Instagram zu verkaufen. Und verdiente so 15.000 Dollar in 24 Stunden.
Daniel Arnold hat 37.000 Follower auf Instagram , mehr als 1300 Bilder hat er dort gepostet. Nur Geld, das hatte der Fotograf aus Brooklyn bis vor Kurzem nicht. Gerade einmal 90 Dollar sollen am vergangenen Donnerstag noch auf seinem Konto gewesen sein, schreibt das Magazin "Forbes" . Einen Tag vor seinem 34. Geburtstag fragte sich Arnold, wie er im nächsten Monat die Miete bezahlen soll. Es musste sich etwas ändern, um Mitternacht schrieb er eine Nachricht auf Instagram: "Hallo, ich werde in dieser Sekunde 34. Einen Tag lang verkaufe ich nun meine 4x6-Drucke oder was auch immer ihr sonst aus meinem Archiv haben wollt, für 150 Dollar das Stück. Ich schwöre, so billig werde ich nie wieder etwas verkaufen."

Dabei hatte Arnold in der Vergangenheit keine gute Erfahrungen mit Instagram gemacht: Vor zwei Jahren sperrte das Netzwerk seinen Account, weil er ein Foto von Frauen, die oben ohne am Strand liegen, gepostet hatte, das gegen die Richtlinien des Dienstes verstieß. Dabei fotografiert Arnold alltägliche Straßenszenen in New York, den ganz normalen Wahnsinn eben. Halbnackte Indianer oder Weihnachtsmänner ohne Hose gehören genauso zu diesem Alltag wie Schlafende in der U-Bahn oder mürrische Rentner im Café. "Forbes" nennt seinen Stil "humanistischen, urbanen Voyeurismus", für die Website "Gawker" war er schon 2012 "der beste Fotograf auf Instagram". Warum also nicht dort versuchen, Geld zu verdienen?

Die Rechnung ging auf. Arnold hatte seine Fans gebeten, ihm die Motive, die sie kaufen wollten, einfach als Screenshot zu schicken. Innerhalb von 24 Stunden kamen so Bestellungen im Gesamtwert von 15.000 US-Dollar (umgerechnet etwa 11.000 Euro) zusammen. Ein Drittel davon wurde noch am selben Tag bezahlt. Ein Käufer bot dem Fotografen sogar im Voraus 1000 Dollar für jedes Instagram-Bild, das mehr als 1000 "Gefällt mir"-Angaben hat. Ein erster Blick in die Galerie zeigt: Das sind einige. Arnold hat seinen Verkauf auf unbestimmte Zeit verlängert, denn in seinem E-Mail-Postfach würden sich die Bestellungen stapeln, sagte er "Forbes".
