"Ich bin so traurig über den Tod von Marianne Faithfull ", schrieb der 81-Jährige zu mehreren Fotos der Verstorbenen, auf denen er selbst teilweise zu sehen ist. "Sie war so lange ein wichtiger Teil meines Lebens. Sie war eine wunderbare Freundin, eine großartige Sängerin und Schauspielerin. Sie wird immer in Erinnerung bleiben."
Rolling-Stones-Manager entdeckte sie
Die 1946 geborene Faithfull wurde als 18-Jährige vom damaligen Rolling-Stones-Manager Andrew Loog Oldham entdeckt. Ihr erster Hit "As Tears Go By", geschrieben von Jagger und Keith Richards, katapultierte sie 1964 in die Charts. Die Beziehung zu Mick Jagger , die von 1966 bis 1970 bestanden haben soll, machte sie endgültig zum Star der Zeit.
Auch Jaggers Rolling-Stones-Kollege Keith Richards trauert öffentlich um die Sängerin und teilte ein aktuelleres Foto, das ihn mit Faithfull bei einem ihrer letzten Treffen zeigt. "Mein aufrichtiges Beileid an Mariannes Familie", schrieb der Musiker. "Ich bin so traurig und werde sie vermissen!"

Marianne Faithfull hatte gesundheitliche Probleme
Jagger und Faithfull trennten sich 1970. Der britischen "Vogue" sagte sie 2021 rückblickend: "Das Rock'n'Roll-Business war nicht freundlich zu Frauen. Aber Mick war es – er war es wirklich." Die beiden blieben über die Jahrzehnte freundschaftlich verbunden.
Wie ein Sprecher Medienberichten zufolge mitteilte, starb Faithfull am 30. Januar friedlich, umgeben von ihrer Familie in London. Sie wurde 78 Jahre alt. Eine Todesursache wurde zunächst nicht bekanntgegeben. Die Musikerin hatte in den letzten Jahren mit verschiedenen gesundheitlichen Problemen zu kämpfen. 2020 überstand sie eine schwere Covid-19-Erkrankung.
