Er feierte seine größten Erfolge in den Filmen von Fatih Akin, spielte in "Gegen die Wand" und "Soul Kitchen". Jetzt ist der Schauspieler Birol Ünel in Berlin gestorben.
Der aus Filmen wie "Gegen die Wand" bekannte Schauspieler Birol Ünel ist tot. Er starb im Alter von 59 Jahren in Berlin, wie das Berliner Maxim Gorki Theater und der Regisseur Fatih Akin über eine Sprecherin bestätigten.
Im Drama "Gegen die Wand" (2004) spielte Ünel zusammen mit Sibel Kekilli die Hauptrolle. Seine Figur: Ein wilder, verlebter Typ. Er lässt sich auf eine Scheinehe mit Sibel ein, damit sie sich von ihrer Familie lösen kann. Dann verliebt er sich in sie.
Regisseur Fatih Akin machte Birol Ünel bekannt
Der Film gewann den Goldenen Bären der Berlinale. Auch in "Soul Kitchen" arbeiteten Ünel und der Hamburger Filmemacher Akin zusammen. "Ruhe in Frieden, mein Freund. Du hattest ein Licht in Dir, das mich immer überwältigt hat", postete Akin bei Instagram.

Geboren wurde Ünel in der Türkei, später kam er nach Deutschland. Mit "Gegen die Wand" wurde er bekannt. Im Laufe seiner Karriere hatte er auch andere, kleinere Filmrollen, unter anderem spielte er in dem RAF-Streifen "Todesspiel" und im Entführungsdrama "Landshut" mit und war zuletzt in "Ich bin dann mal weg" zu sehen. Nun sei er am Donnerstag nach schwerer Krankheit in Berlin gestorben, teilte eine Sprecherin des Gorki Theaters mit.
