MayandBerry haben sich im kreativen Bereich selbständig gemacht. Sie geben Illustration- und Lettering-Workshops. Wir haben mit Yasmin und Sue, wie die beiden mit echtem Namen heißen, darüber gesprochen, warum der Trend derzeit immer größer wird.
Von der Postkarte bis zur Tragetasche – derzeit gibt es an jeder Ecke Accessoires und Produkte mit Handschriften-Aufdrucken zu kaufen. Der Hype geht so weit, dass immer mehr Künstler aus dem Trend ein Business machen können.
Zwei Künstlerinnen, die genau das tun, sind Yasmin und Sue aus Bonn. 2016 lernten sich beide auf einem Designmarkt in Bonn kennen. "Uns wurde schnell klar, dass wir die selben Träume und Wertvorstellungen haben und beruflich einen ähnlichen Weg anstreben", sagten die beiden dem stern . Im selben Jahr eröffneten sie unter dem Namen "MayandBerry" ein Studio, in welchem sie bis zu sechs Mal im Monat Workshops zum Thema "Handlettering" und "Watercolor" anbieten. Inzwischen haben Sue und Yasmin über 14.000 Follower auf Instagram und die Fangemeinde wächst und wächst.
"Handlettering" oder auch "Brushlettering" ist die Kunst, Buchstaben zu illustrieren oder auch zu zeichnen. Dafür werden oftmals Brushpens oder Pinsel verwendet, die eine besonders flexible Spitze haben. Die Illustrationen werden mit Wasserfarben erstellt. Diese sind oftmals einfach gehalten und werden häufig mit einem Lettering kombiniert.

Warum ist Lettering so angesagt?
MayandBerry sehen Lettering als Ruhepol: "Der Trend ist wahrscheinlich die natürliche Reaktion der Menschen auf Reizüberflutung, Stress und Konsum." Sie genießen die Zeit, in der das Handy oder der Computer mal nicht zum Einsatz kommen. Dabei entsteht ein hoher Entspannungsfaktor, denn ein Wort zu "lettern" dauert länger, als ein Wort zu schreiben. "Die Teilnehmer, die zu uns kommen entspannen sich innerhalb von ein paar Minuten und vergessen alles um sie herum", haben MayandBerry in ihren Workshops festgestellt.

Bei Brushlettering dient die eigene Handschrift als Grundpfeiler. Kombiniert mit etwas Kreativität können richtig schöne Werke entstehen. Genau das ist es auch, was die Menschen so in den Bann zieht. Sie erstellen aus eigener Fantasie Kreationen, die sie im Optimalfall auch noch verschenken können – sei es als Grußkarte oder Wandbild.
Den Einstieg in die Lettering-Welt vereinfacht, dass jeder mit Stift und Papier sofort loslegen kann, im Gegensatz zur Kalligrafie: "Regeln wie bei der klassischen Kalligrafie sind nur am Rande vorhanden und man kann sich richtig schön kreativ austoben."
MayandBerry empfehlen Anfängern: "Es reichen Stift und Papier, um die ersten Schritte zu gehen. Mit einem Kugelschreiber, Bleistift oder Filzer können bereits wunderschöne Schriftzüge entstehen. Auch das Papier ist dabei erstmal zweitrangig." Wer also gerne mal den Stift zückt, sollte diesen Trend nicht unbeobachtet lassen.
