Er hat praktisch alles gewonnen. Nun hängt Jerome Boateng seine Fußballschuhe an den Nagel. Das erklärte der Weltmeister von 2014 auf seinen Social Media-Kanälen.
Der ehemalige Fußball-Nationalspieler Jérôme Boateng beendet seine Karriere. Das verkündete der Weltmeister von 2014 über die sozialen Medien. "Der Fußball hat mir viel gegeben", sagte der 37-Jährige in einem Video, das Bilder und Ausschnitte seiner Laufbahn zeigt. "Ich habe gelernt, gewonnen und verloren." Nun sei es an der Zeit, weiterzuziehen. Er sei dankbar für alles, erklärte der frühere Abwehrspieler.
Der Gewinn des WM-Titels mit der deutschen Nationalmannschaft vor elf Jahren in Brasilien war der größte Erfolg in der Karriere des gebürtigen Berliners. Sein Bundesliga-Debüt hatte Boateng im Januar 2007 für Hertha BSC gegeben. Mit dem FC Bayern München, für den er insgesamt zehn Jahre spielte, gewann der Defensivmann unter anderem neun deutsche Meistertitel, zweimal die Champions League und fünfmal den DFB-Pokal.

Nachdem er die Münchner 2021 verlassen hatte, war es sportlich zunehmend ruhiger um Boateng geworden. Er spielte noch für Olympique Lyon in Frankreich, US Salernitana in Italien und zuletzt den Linzer ASK in Österreich.

Im August hatte Boateng seinen ursprünglich noch bis 2026 laufenden Vertrag in Linz aufgelöst – nach gerade mal 14 Pflichtspielen für den Club. "Es war eine bereichernde Erfahrung, noch einmal in einem neuen Umfeld zu arbeiten. Nun ist für mich der richtige Zeitpunkt gekommen, um ein neues Kapitel aufzuschlagen", hatte der 76-malige Nationalspieler damals gesagt.
