Der britische Popmusiker Barry Ryan ist tot. Der "Eloise"-Sänger starb bereits am Dienstag, wie sein langjähriger Freund Yusuf alias Cat Stevens auf Instagram mitteilte.
Mit "Eloise" hatte er Ende der sechziger Jahre seinen Durchbruch, jetzt ist Barry Ryan im Alter von 72 Jahren verstorben. Wie sein langjähriger Freund Cat Stevens auf Instagram mitteilte, verstarb der britische Popsänger bereits am Dienstag – nur wenige Wochen vor seinem 73. Geburtstag am 24. Oktober.

"Gestern ist ein guter alter Kumpel von mir verstorben, sein Name war Barry Ryan", schreibt Yusuf zu einem gemeinsamen Foto mit Ryan. "Unsere gemeinsame Zeit begann in den 60er Jahren, als er und sein Zwillingsbruder Paul Smoking-gekleidete, poppige Teenager-Stars waren. Ich hatte für Paul und Barry Ryan einen Song mit dem Titel 'Keep It Out Of Sight' geschrieben, und so begannen wir miteinander abzuhängen."

Mit "Eloise" wurde der britische Sänger 1969 weltbekannt. Schlagerfans feiern ihn vor allem wegen seines deutschsprachigen Hits "Zeit macht nur vor dem Teufel halt" aus dem Jahre 1972. Als 1992 sein Zwillingsbruder Paul starb, zog sich Barry Ryan aus dem Musikgeschäft zurück und widmete sich stattdessen der Modefotografie.
