Die Schauspielerin Valerie Mahaffey ist im Alter von 71 Jahren an einer Krebserkrankung in Los Angeles gestorben.
Die gebürtige Indonesierin Valerie Mahaffey, Tochter eines Texaners und einer Kanadierin, war über vier Jahrzehnte im Film- und Fernsehgeschäft aktiv. Sie hinterlässt ihren Ehemann Joseph Kell und die gemeinsame Tochter Alice.
"Ich habe die Liebe meines Lebens verloren, und Amerika hat eine seiner liebenswertesten Schauspielerinnen verloren. Sie wird uns fehlen", sagte ihr Mann gegenüber dem Magazin "Variety". Ihre Tochter Alice Richards schrieb auf Instagram: "Mir fehlen gerade die Worte. Krebs ist echt ätzend. Ich werde in allen schönen Momenten des Lebens nach dir suchen. Ich weiß, dass du dort sein wirst. Ich weiß, dass wir uns eines Tages wiedersehen werden. Ich liebe dich unendlich."

Valerie Mahaffey spielte in etlichen bekannten Serien und Filmen mit
Mahaffey spielte in zahlreichen TV-Produktionen mit. Besonders bekannt wurde sie durch ihre Rollen als Alma Hodge in "Desperate Housewives ", als Eve in "Ausgerechnet Alaska" und als Lehrerin Victoria MacElroy in "Young Sheldon", wo sie von 2017 bis 2020 in 14 Episoden zu sehen war.
Auch im Kino war sie aktiv, etwa in "Sully" an der Seite von Tom Hanks und in "French Exit" mit Michelle Pfeiffer und Imogen Poots. Ihr letzter Film war "The 8th Day", der im März 2025 veröffentlicht wurde. Zuletzt war sie außerdem in Serien wie "Dead To Me" (als Lorna Harding) und "Echo 3" (2022) zu sehen.

Mahaffey begann ihre Karriere am Broadway in den 1970er-Jahren. Ihren Durchbruch im Fernsehen hatte sie 1979 mit der NBC-Soap "The Doctors". 1980 erhielt sie ihre erste Emmy-Nominierung. 1992 gewann sie schließlich den Preis für ihre Rolle in "Ausgerechnet Alaska " als herausragende Nebendarstellerin. Neben Gastauftritten in Serien wie "Frasier", "CSI" und "Law & Order: SVU" war sie in den USA vor allem als vielseitige und präzise Charakterdarstellerin bekannt.
Mahaffeys Tochter Alice Richards tritt in die Fußstapfen der Mutter und ist ebenfalls im Showbusiness tätig. Sie spielte unter anderem 2018 im Horrorfilm "The Witch Files" sowie 2010 im Jugendfilm "Summer Eleven" mit.
