US-Präsident Donald Trump hat ein Modell für einen Triumphbogen in der Hauptstadt Washington vorgestellt. Bei einem Spendendinner für den von ihm geplanten Ballsaal auf dem Gelände des Weißen Hauses präsentierte er Medienberichten zufolge Pläne für den Bau eines Monuments ähnlich dem Arc de Triomphe in Paris. "Es wird wirklich wunderschön werden", zitierte der Sender CNN Trump, "ich glaube, es wird fantastisch werden".
Bei der Veranstaltung am Mittwoch (Ortszeit) waren den Berichten zufolge unter anderem Vertreter von Tech-Firmen wie Amazon, Apple, Meta, Google und Microsoft anwesend. Trump habe ihnen verschieden große Modelle eines weißen Bogens mit einem goldenen Engel darauf gezeigt. Am besten gefalle ihm das größte davon, zitierten ihn US-Medien.
Offizielle Pläne noch nicht bekannt
Anlass für den Bau sei der 250. Unabhängigkeitstag der Vereinigten Staaten am 4. Juli 2026. Offizielle Pläne des Weißen Hauses gibt es noch nicht. Wann genau mit dem Bau begonnen werden soll und wer diesen finanziert, war zunächst unklar.
Das Bauwerk soll den Berichten zufolge auf einer Verkehrsinsel in einer Achse mit dem historischen Lincoln Memorial auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite der Arlington Memorial Bridge entstehen

Trump stellte das Modell für den von US-Medien als "Arc de Trump" betitelten Bogen Berichten zufolge bereits vor dem Dinner am Mittwoch im Oval Office aus. Auf die Frage eines Journalisten, für wen das Bauwerk sei, habe er auf sich gezeigt und geantwortet: "Für mich."

Donald Trump gestaltet Weißes Haus um
Trump lässt das Weiße Haus nach seinen Wünschen umgestalten. Er ließ das Oval Office aufpolieren und betont jetzt den Goldglanz. Im Rosengarten wich eine Rasenfläche einem Steinplatten-Sitzbereich. Der geplante Ballsaal soll im Ostflügel des Gebäudekomplexes entstehen. Der Saal soll nach Angaben der Regierung Platz für 900 Personen bieten und rund 200 Millionen Dollar (etwa 172 Millionen Euro) kosten. Kritiker des Projekts halten Trump Pomp und Geltungssucht vor.
